not praying for an answer

(He) is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think. Ephesians 3:20

So many times I find that God has blessed me beyond what I could have imagined.

It’s the project that went exceedingly well. It’s the relationship that leads to great things in ministry. It’s the change that opens doors to opportunities I’ve never dreamed about.

It’s the answer to the prayer I never knew to pray.

How blessed are we that He wants to bless us beyond what we know to ask? How much joy it must bring Him to blow our socks off. How amazing it must be for my relationship with God when I take time to notice the blessing and thank Him for it.

brett farve is back(!)

Bloggers will post hundreds of April fool’s day jokes today - following in the keystrokes of a few that were a bit preemptive, and a few that are just cool. Interestingly enough, most of the pranks on the internet will revolve around something big that just can’t be true.I was reading in Ephesians today and came across a couple verses that could have sounded like a 2000 year old April fools joke. They are just so big… there is no earthly way they’re true.

But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he has loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ - by grace you have been saved - And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.Ephesians 2: 4, 5, 8 & 9

The whole section (2:1-10) is a screaming testament to our salvation through Christ by faith. But how foolish is that to believe? That even though I don’t deserve it, could never earn it and didn’t even know to ask for it, God extended grace? No April fools joke, that’s the gospel (fool).

three alcoholics

I had dinner a few nights ago with a group of people, and in the course of our conversation found out three of them were radically addicted to alcohol in their past. They told their story, about how their spouses paid the price. How their kids paid the price. How they paid the price, but just didn’t care.

The alcohol was too good.

I also had dinner the other night with some core leaders in our church. People who volunteer their time above and beyond to bring the gospel to the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

It was the same dinner.

There were these people and they were dyeing. Their lives were falling apart. Their marriages were about to end. There was no more hope. Then they met Jesus.

Everything changed.

The alcohol stopped. The relationships were healed. They were baptized. Now they’re leading the church.

How beautiful is redemption? How great is it when it echoes through our lives? I was in awe as I listened to the stories of these amazing Christians. They know what it means to be redeemed because everything in their lives has change. Nothing is the same.

You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.

Ephesians 4:22-24
